Terming the government move to amend the Right to Information law as an 'attempt to mislead' the people, social activist Anna Hazare on Thursday said he will begin a fast-unto-death unless the changes are taken back. II will begin a fast-unto-death from August 9 against this retrograde step of the government," he told reporters in New Delhi. Hazare, who had been waging a relentless campaign for the right to information, said he would begin his agitation at the August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai. He said activists of his 'Peoples' Agitation against Corruption' will launch protest demonstrations across all districts in Maharashtra on the same day.

In Delhi, the National Campaign for Peoples' Right to Information will launch a sit-in at the Jantar Mantar from August 7 demanding a rollback of the amendments to the Right to Information law. "It is one of the most beautiful and progressive laws in independent India and the amendments to it would kill the legislation," said Arvind Kejriwal of 'Parivartan', a people's movement for right to information.
