National Alliance of People’ Movements will launch an agitation against the Central Government’s proposal to amend the Right to Information, which it said, would take the life out of the law.

The announcement in this regard was made at a press conference, which was addressed by, among others, former DGP MC Dwivedi, former IG SR Darapuri, social activist, Sandeep Pandey, NBA activist, Arundhati Dhrue and former Dy SP, Shailendra Sihgh. They said that the Union Cabinet had proposed an amendment, which would make the file noting, Cabinet papers and examination answer sheets beyond the purview of the Right to Information. They alleged that that it was a conspiracy to deprive people of their right. They said that it was unfortunate that at a time when the RTI was getting so popular amongst the people, the Central Government was tampering with this Act.

The National Alliance of People’s Movements, said the activists, would stage demonstrations at all the district headquarters, including in the State Capital on August 1, followed by the launch of an indefinite agitation in Delhi from August 3.
