Corruption and Right to Information |

The RTI Act 2005 was heralded as the most progressive law ever passed in independent India. It EMPOWERED CITIZENS to question government decisions, and made it mandatory for the government to disclose all information pertaining to those decisions - including how the decision was reached at and which officials played what part in arriving at that decision. Our dreams and wishes of an empowered, democratic, strong India, free from the shackles of corruption, were almost coming true, until the Cabinet stepped in. Less than a year after the Act was passed, the Cabinet, purportedly feeling the heat from a corrupt bureaucratic lobby, approved amendments to the RTI Act, which will debilitate the Act into a totally ineffective tool. The amendments will make it IMPOSSIBLE to trace the guilty officials and will provide no clue as to how a decision was arrived at. In short, it will breathe new life into corruption! However there is still time. albeit short, to ACT - We need to raise our voices - ONE UNITED VOICE - calling for the landmark RTI Act to be left as is. YOUR VOICE AND ACTION COUNTS. ACT NOW TO FREE INDIA FROM CORRUPTION.
