Democracy and Right to Information Print E-mail

Democracy is essentially the end point of an asymptotic process. In that sense it is fair to say that no nation state has ever attained true democracy. Precisely because of this reason any step that takes India closer to democracy is truly crucial and absolutely necessary. The recent passage of the Right to Information (RTI) Act by the Government of India and its enthusiastic use by the citizenry were indeed steps of which every Indian could be proud. The news that the Cabinet in its infinite wisdom is now considering steps which will compromise the use of RTI must equally alarm every Indian who looks forward to the attainment of democracy in our motherland. We protest such a calculated attack on a process which we believe has given hope to every Indian that his/her Govt trusts him/her enough to give him/her the right to question his/her Govt's actions in an open transparent manner. Progress is a very tortuous journey for any Nation. BACKTRACKING is to be shunned with every strength of our being!
