Sample Email to Prime Minister - Visionary? Print E-mail

Dear Sir,

In 1991 as the Finance Minister, you led India into the new economic age with brave and bold steps casting aside conventional diktats. In 2005, with the Right to Information Act, you opened the doors and gave us an opportunity to revolutionize the governance process for a better and stronger India. Just as Indians across the country heeded your call and carried out a massive RTI awareness campaign, you've have chosen to slam the door in our faces. You have chosen to bring in an amendent to remove file notings from the purview of the RTI act. In one swoop, you will not have ripped out the heart and soul of the RTI act but will have dashed our dreams of a corrupt-free India. You know as well as anyone that it would have a crippling effect on the act and render it virtually useless.

What happened to the visionary Manmohan Singh? How did you succumb to the myopic vested interests that have held India back for over five decades? We've come to expect from you "the clear stream of reason that has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit", but now we just ask,  "into that heaven of freedom, my Father, will my country ever awake?"

I urge you to withdraw immediately the this retrograde amendment to the RTI 2005 act and continue to strengthen the democratic fabric of this nation by devolving greater power to the people and engaging them in a proactive and participatory manner.
