Summary Reach out to the community and take both RTI and NREGA acts to the people by disseminating information in a manner more understandable to the people because this information is vital to their survival. This will be done through local cultural mediums Goals Take these two Acts to the people not only through theatre but also other popular local cultural mediums - Involve the local cultural groups(like Rai, Hela Khyaal, Natt, Bahrupiya) also educate them about the Acts and influencing them to include these themes in their plays
- Develop other forms of disseminating information like poster making, writing slogans, audio and videography and documentation
- Document the communication aspect from the time RTI movement started taking its shape and the impact that songs, slogans and plays made by the local folk, had on all those who heard it
- Work with other activists in the districts and also with the PRI members (Panchayati Raj Institution) as their awareness about the Act thus becomes crucial if we want to reach the last person in the village and in poor settlements in the towns
- Explore the different ways in which RTI can help out oppressed and deprived community with a focus on women
- Identify all similar groups in Rajasthan and encourage and equip them with required skills and knowledge hence developing a cadre for the RTI Act
- Work with schools and colleges to create awareness among younger sections
- Influence the established cultural groups to assimilate social messages in their performances through these efforts
Achievements As a member of the Alarippu Communication team Shiv has organised trainings for more than 50 NGOs in North India. He had also been the editor of a monthly magazine ‘Jharokha’ for five years and written five scripts and improvised many other plays. His plays deal with social issues like communalism, minimum wages, dowry, atrocities on women, problem of youth migration, trafficking etc. Shiv has also acted in two documentary films on health issues - Pratiksha and Subah ka Bhula. Shiv has worked with Tripurari Sharma (National School of Drama, Delhi) and Shankar Singh (MKSS), amongst others to evolve relevant theatre. Tripurari has trained a host of theatre exponents to make the link between formal and street theatre. Shankar and Shiv, along with others have contributed to the organic growth of theatre along with people’s struggles. They have evolved participatory theatre, merging communication methods in a very interesting dialectic with activism, to give greater depth to people’s political self-expression. |
