RTI removes illegal publicity hoardings |

Dear All, In my city,i.e Hassan, we the residents were forced to tolerate the Banner / Cutout menance. Huge publicity posters(all pertaining to political leaders) exhibiting birth day wishes, anouncing some poltical rally,some one welcoming to a village function etc wer put up in a prominent circle of our city.
It was very akward to have these posters covering the whole area around the circle. And surprisingly the vinyl posters used to remain even after many a months,not days, after the purpose was served. There are many examples of a poster covering an year of around 10 feet wide and some 20 feet heigh standing for last 8-9 months. Muncipal authorities were not taking any action. But............. I filed an RTI application seeking:-
1. The rules and regulations governing the erecting or putting up of publicity hoardings in public places like Roads, Circles etc
2. Details of Fee collected from such users
3. Is there any violations in this regard and what action has been taken against the violaters?
4. How many individuals, associations, parties have been given permission to put up publicity hoardings in that particular area. Etc... Etc... This application was filed on 05.02.2007 and today morning at 7.00 I saw about 10-12 muncipalty staff demolishing all the huge hoardings. It was one of the most memorable morning of my life. Thanks to RTI !! --
